About This Object
The Orangefin Anemonefish grows to a maximum length of 15 cm. It is dark brown, becoming bright orange on the lower abdomen, head and chest. It has a broad bright blue bar across the head and a narrow bar in the middle of the body. The tail is white.
The Orangefin Anemonefish is a tropical coral reef species found in lagoons and seaward reef slopes to about 30 m depth in the Philippines, New Guinea, northern Great Barrier Reef and throughout Micronesia. It is symbiotic with the anemones Heteractis aurora, H. crispa, H. magnifica, Stichodactyla haddoni, S. mertensii, and Entacmaea quadricolor.
Like other anemonefish they are protandric hermaphrodites, which means that individuals are all born male but change sex, becoming female later in life.
