Celebrating the life and work of Charles Darwin

Rosemary leaf beetles on lavender Horniman Gardens, Forest Hill. Paolo Viscardi 26/9/2008Charles Darwin was born on 12th February 1809. As a child he had a fascination with nature that he maintained for his entire life. This fascination took him around the world and led to a theory that shook the world.

The Horniman Museum and Gardens and our partners celebrated the life and work of this inspirational Victorian gentleman with a series of exhibitions, events and activities throughout 2009.

We hosted a photographic competition, handling sessions, adult talks, music concerts, plus a host of other family events. If you want more information about Darwin we have several works by or about him that can be found in our Library (download a bibliography here). If you have any questions about Darwin, or his theories you could always Ask a Biologist.
