Dances of the World

This summer join our demonstration and participation dance sessions in the gardens to learn Caribbean, Latin American and Indian dance. Each session contains a short talk about the dance’s origins and significance, followed by a demonstration to music and the opportunity to join in and learn steps.

Samba con Salsa with Mandacaru Dance Theatre

The thunderous drums of Rio’s Samba fuse with the strings of Havana’s Salsa. These dances of African origin created by enslaved and Creole peoples reveal the soul of the Latin America.

The graceful movements of Classical Kathak dance from northern India are woven together with popular Bollywood dance steps.
