DARWIN 200 Photographic CompetitionCompetition Winners Exhibition, Gallery Square, Friday 20 November 2009 - Sunday 11 April 2010To celebrate the birth of both Darwin and his theory of evolution, the Horniman Museum and its partners, the Grant Museum of Zoology and the Society of Biology, staged a photographic competition with the aim of inspiring people to emulate Darwin's fascination with nature. 217 entries of stunning quality were received with images ranging from the exotic to the commonplace; from the Galapagos to Darwin's garden in Bromley; from the simplest mosses to our closest relatives, the great apes. Janet Vitmayer, Director of the Horniman, said: "We were very pleasantly surprised by the exceptional standard of entries to the competition and the winners can feel justifiably proud. It's wonderful to see Darwin's investigative zeal capturing people's imagination two hundred years after his birth. I hope that, in their turn, these fabulous photographs will inspire our visitors to explore the natural world." The judging panel consisted of: Emma Carter, Dr. Dan Glaser, Kate Humble, Prof. Steve Jones, Randal Keynes OBE, Prof. Diane Newell OBE and Heini Schneebeli. Find out more
