Temporary Closure of the Natural History Gallery

The lower level of the Natural History Gallery will be closed for essential maintenance from Monday 06 September and we hope to open the gallery before Christmas 2010. The balcony level of the Gallery will remain open with access via the lift only.

Several Horniman Natural History specimens will be on display in the Temporary Exhibition Gallery as part of Beatriz da Costa’s installation A Memorial for the Still Living from Saturday 2 October 2010 – Sunday 9 January 2011.

Blue Earth is back on Display

This striking artwork by Taslim Martin, especially commissioned to mark the bicentenary of the abolition of the transatlantic Slave Trade, has been re-etched and repositioned in African Worlds and is looking better than ever. Come and see this dramatic piece telling the story of the global impact of the slave trade. For all ages.

CultureLine Survey - Results are in!

The results of the Culture Line survey reveal the cultural habits of north and south Londoners. Showing a clear divide, the findings inspired mayor Boris Johnson to call on Londoners to try a ‘culture swap’ this summer and cross the river to visit new places and cultural attractions.

Culture Line launches

The new London Overground line connects cultural attractions from Dalston to Croydon including the Horniman Museum, the Geffrye, and the Whitechapel Gallery. Visit the Culture Line website for more information.

V&A Musical Instruments

The V&A has agreed to make significant loans from its musical instrument collection to the Horniman Museum. This will complement the Horniman's designated musical instrument collections which provide an illuminating historical context to the V&A instruments.
