Grey squirrel

Adaptable rodent found everywhere in London. Eats nuts, seeds, tree bark and raids bird tables. Often stores food to eat in winter.

Evidence: Stripped pine cones, cracked nuts and bark-stripped branches.

Red versus grey
Red squirrels were widespread in woodlands across Britain until the 1950's. North American grey squirrels, introduced in the 19th Century have almost replaced our native reds.
