Our Gardens are undergoing a major £2.3m redevelopment during 2011. This is due for completion in Spring 2012. Some areas will be closed - see here for areas that are open and closed or read the latest news on the project.


Opening in 2012, our display gardens have been created by our gardeners in collaboration with our curators to produce these unique displays which unite our indoor and outdoor collections. 

 

Medicinal Garden

Planted in ten ‘body part’ sections, the Medicine Garden features a range of plants used to treat illness in different areas of our body. Some are local remedies that have persisted through time while others have formed the basis of modern medicines. 
 

Food Garden

A garden which celebrates the diversity food plants from countries all around the world which are grown in south London allotments. Find tips on for growing your own and stories about where your food comes from.
 

Dye Garden 

A traditional sunken garden space combining colourful annual bedding schemes with exhibition planting. Discover a huge array of natural plant dyes and the processes used to produce them.
 

Materials Garden

The materials garden features plants used by people around the world to make products as diverse as building materials to textiles and musical instruments. 
 

Animal Walk 

Home to rabbits, guinea pigs, chickens, ferrets, sheep, goats and alpaca, this is a great place for families and animal enthusiasts to explore.
 

Music Garden

This hands-on garden space inspired by our world instruments collection features musical instruments on a giant scale that you can play.
 

Wildlife Garden 

An outdoor classroom packed with ideas for how to attract wildlife to gardens and green spaces. Groups can book it for their own use. We also run facilitated school and community group sessions.
