            "value": "Donald J. LaRocca is a curator in the Department of Arms and Armor at the Metropolitan Museum of Art. He specialises in Himalayan arms and armour.\n\nLa Rocca received his BA cum laude from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst, in 1979 and his MA. summa cum laude from Temple University in Philadelphia in 1988.  He began his museum career as a volunteer in the Metalwork Department of the Victoria and Albert Museum and an intern at the Royal Armouries in the Tower of London in 1979 and 1980.  He was a National Endowment for the Arts Intern in the Costume and Textiles Department of the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston from 1980 to 1981, before joining the Philadelphia Museum of Art in 1982.  In Philadelphia from 1982 to 1988, La Rocca was the Assistant Curator of the C. O. von Kienbusch Collection of Arms and Armor and the department of Medieval and Renaissance Decorative Arts.  La Rocca joined the staff of the Metropolitan Museum of Art in 1988 as an Assistant Curator and was promoted to Associate Curator in 1993 and full Curator in 2000.  He is the author of more than thirty-five scholarly articles, essays, and catalogues on wide ranging aspects of the subject of arms and armor.  Chief among these is Warriors of the Himalayas: Rediscovering the Arms and Armor of Tibet, the catalogue of an international loan exhibition held at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in 2006. He was presented with the medal for services to the study of arms and armor by the Arms and Armour Society of London in 2007 and the Justius Lipsius Award by ICOMAM in 2008."
