He produced ethnographic surveys, including one for all museums with ethnographic material in the South-West of England (1998-2000). Additionally, he managed a Subject Specialist Network development programme for the Museum Ethnographers Group. He chaired the Group from1978-1980 and again from 1999-2002, and was a member of its Committee from 1999 to 2006.    Other recent projects include the curation of the World Cultures gallery in the new Great North Museum in Newcastle (2006-2009), the new Explorers Gallery at Torquay Museum (2004-2007) and the co-curation of the \u2018Human Cargo\u2019 exhibition in Plymouth Museum (2007). Pole additionally served as a Curatorial Consultant for the West Africa section of \u2018Breaking the Chains\u2019 exhibition at the British Empire and Commonwealth Museum, Bristol (2007). Len Pole is currently involved in the \u2018Effective Collections\u2019 project which seeks to improve the use of World Cultures collections in five East Anglian museums.
