            "value": "Arthur Waley was born as Arthur David Schloss in 1889, son of the economist David Frederick Schloss. He changed his name to Waley, his grandmother's maiden name, in 1914 in response to the anti-German sentiment in England at the time. Way was educated at Rugby and then King College, Cambridge. He was appointed Assistant Keeper of Oriental Prints and Manuscripts at the British Museum in 1913. He learned Chinese and some Japanese to assist in his work, and began to study Chinese and Japanese poetry, subsequently publishing several volumes of poems that he translated into English. \n\nWaley left the British Museum in 1929 to concentrate on his writing. During the Second World War he worked as a censor for the British Ministry of Information, being one of very few people in England at the time who could read Japanese. Waley continued to publish after the war, and died in 1966."
