ethnomusicologist (1922 - 1990)
Jean Jenkins was an American-born ethnomusicologist. She studied anthropology and musicology in Missouri in the 1940s before emigrating to the UK in 1949. She joined the staff of the Horniman as Keeper of Musical Instruments in 1954 and built up the ethnomusicology collections of the museum. She travelled in Southern Europe, Asia and Africa in the 1960s and 1970s, collecting musical instruments as well as recordings and photographs. She left the museum in 1978, after which she performed freelance work in France, Germany, and Scotland. She died in London in 1990.
