Daeng Soetinga, Bandung, West Java, is generally credited with the modern revival of interest in the angklung instrument, and ran a cultural centre focussed on the instrument. Daeng was active in schools music education, for which the angklung ensemble is well suited, playing largely Western tunes (such as 'Colonel Bogey'). Daeng Soetinga was the brother of Jonathan Hugh-Jones's employer.
