harp maker (1769 - 1846)
Johann Andreas Stumpff was a German-born harp and piano maker, based in London from 1790. He had a workshop on Great Portland Street and was 'Maker to His Majesty the King of Great Britain'. He was made a member of the Royal Institute of Great Britain in 1832, the only German member at that time. Stumpff was a friend of Beethoven's, and a collector of autographed manuscripts by Mozart.
