Dulcimer. The trapezoid body is of varnished red-brown wood. The flat wooden sound-table is painted black. The table is pierced by four sound holes comprising one central hole encircled by eight smaller holes. Red and gold star-like decorations surround the soundholes. There are fourteen quadruple courses of strings. Each string course, mainly of dark metal wire, some of copper, is secured to the body with a row of four small metal hitchpins on the left hand side; and with a row of four tuning pins on the right hand side. Eleven courses pass over eleven chessmen bridges on the left hand side of the sound table. The second, sixth and tenth courses pass over (bass) bridges near the right hand side. The body is varnished. The hammers have square edged handles of wood; their heads are mallet shaped and covered with white cloth.
