            "value": "The name for this instrument is noted as 'Ipakke-Ni' by John Batchelor in 'The Ainu and their Folk-lore' (1901), pp 459-460.  'From the thick round end to the mark in the centre is a hole either made with an awl, or by thrusting a red-hot nail into it.   Over the surface of the instrument a very thin piece of fish skin has been stretched, being tied round the outside edges with very fine strings made of twisted fish entrails. When a person desires to decoy a deer he wets the surface of the skin which is upon the face of the instrument and blows in at the top, whilst drawing his two thumbs over the skin.  The noise thus produced resembles the sound of a young doe, and is said to draw the bucks to the place whence the sound issues.'"

            "value": "Deer call, Ainu name 'Ipakke-Ni'. Made from a single piece of lightweight wood, in the shape of a trapezium with the mouth hole in a tube midway on the longest side. The two ends of this side terminate in round knobs.  In profile, the body tapers inwards away from the mouthpiece. A window or mouth is positioned in the centre of the top face. The rest of the top is covered with a piece of mammal (probably deer) skin, glued in place and tied with vegetable fibre threads that are wrapped round the body. The threads are also tied to the knobs at each side and are tied together above the mouthpiece to form a carrying strap."
