            "value": "This tobacco smoking-pipe is carved out of a single piece of wood. The length of its stem suggests that it formerly belonged to an older man or woman, as long stemmed pipes were the preserve of elders.\n\nThe pipe appears to be missing its separable mouthpiece, which would have been inserted into the flanged end of the pipe-stem. Having had direct contact with its owner\u2019s body, and therefore containing something of their spiritual essence, the mouthpiece would not have been parted with easily.\n\nSee Shaw, 1938."
