It was set up around 1920 by Lucien Albert, a member of the distinguished Albert family of woodwind instrument makers (Lucien's grandfather Eug\u00e8ne was the inventor of the Albert system clarinet). In the late 1920s, Lucien's company was employing 30\u201340 staff and making around 100 instruments per month, supplying both Belgian and British markets.
