            "value": "Typology file: Gift of Miss Theresa Haine. 2 Aug. 1975. One of a collection of instruments (1975-357-1975.366) made in Madagascar by Theresa Haine between 1969 and 1971.   'Two valihas' (1975.357 and 1975.358) which I bought in the market in the the capital.  The one has metal strings and is meant to be played; the other has strings made from the raised \"bark\" of the bamboo, and judging by the thickness of the strings, was made with the tourist in mind.  However, it does illustrate the traditional method of making strings before the advent of steel wire and is therefore of some interest.  The bridges are made of pieces of gourd in both cases\".
