This machine is a Little Wanzer, and is accompanied by a badly-torn instruction manual. It appears to have previously been dated to 1857 based on the patent date stamped on the machine, which is hard to read but actually says 1867. Due to the ornate decoration and nickel-plated bar cover, it likely dates from the 1870s. The wooden case might not be original to the machine - the illustration of the standard Wanzer travel case in the instruction booklet shows a hinged box with a drop-down front, not a sliding front. The box with the machine looks somewhat homemade, or heavily repaired. It is held together with metal brackets, and has been painted yellow on the inside.
