

Circular cone palm leaf hat, terindak matu, with a peg point, made of sheets of palm leaf held together with ribs of split bamboo radiating from peak to rim. Rim reinforced with red-painted rattan, bound to the hat at intervals with beige fibre. Decorated with red- and black-painted panels in the lower part followed by a narrow lattice of splits, then a band painted in a variety of colours, and finally the point held in place by the radiating red ribs. Underside plain leaf with only the stitch marks holding the leaves in place. Diameter 220mm approx.
