glove puppet; kukli

Male glove puppet, kukli, with a central vertical wooden rod. The puppet has a large painted, papier mache head with distorted cheeks and chin with a black beard and moustache (Cf. 1999.65); rose-bud mouth and heavily lidded eyes. He is dressed in a black fur hat (larger than a skull cap) and a red, green, yellow and blue striped robe, or khalat. The front opening of the robe and the cuffs are trimmed in a shiny gold material with a gold leaf motif on a black background.

May have played a father, an old man or a rich man in Khivan stories.
