Shield made from a sheet of untreated crocodile hide. Traditionally made of rhinoceros or hippopotamus hide, the Turkana also developed iron versions which were considered safer, lighter and far better in combat than hide shields. Since the main hunters of crocodiles and hippos on Lake Turkana are the Elmolo, it is presumed that the skin may have been obtained from the Elmolo fishermen and used to make the shield. Turkana shields are generally narrow. The collector of this object is unknown neither is the period of collection.<\/p>"
