Until 1966 the tenore was owned by Don Juan Bosch of San Baudilo del Llobregat, who played it in a Sardana (Catalonian dance) band. In 1966 the tenore was purchased from Don Juan Bosch by a Spanish friend of Dr Jocelyn Morris, from whom the Museum purchased the instrument in 2001.",

            "value": "Acquisition proposal E245\n\nDescription of Object(s) (note approx. size, materials, obvious damage & any related information)\n\nOne tenore (shawm [reedpipe\/double reed aerophone with conical bore]) made in Catalonia, Spain, probably early 20th century, with ribbed wooden piroutte and staple,  in fitted leather-bound case, with  3 cylindrical metal boxes containing two pirouettes on brass staples, and one rectangular metal box containing 7 spare reeds.\n\nOver all length of instrument, assembled, with staple, integral pirouette and reed: 915mm.\n\nLength of case: 495mm.,  Width of case: 155mm., Depth of case: 155mm.\n_____________________________________________________________________History and Provenance (note when, where or how it was found or used, names, dates & details of the people who made, owned or collected it, etc.)\n\nUntil 1966 the tenore was owned by Don Juan Bosch of San Baudilo del Llobregat, who played it in a Sardana (Catalonian dance) band. Gibb: Solf\u00e8ge First Course. London: William Heinemann, 1913, 43pp.\n\nIn the publication of 1914 Gibb describes this system of musical education was that first published by Mlle Chassevant in 1872.             "value": "Tenora, shawm. The body is of varnished wood, with a long plated metal bell joint. Ther are five open finger holes and fourteen key covered holes, two of which are on the bell joint. The keys are pillar and axle mounted with round, leather padded flaps, which are domed on the body joints and flat on the bell joint. There is a metal sleeve around the top of the lower body joint with a hole cut for the fingerhole it covers. A brass reed staple is attached to a ribbed wooden pirouette (a tudel), which is fixed to a yellow disc at the top of the body. The instrument has a fitted leather-bound case, with three cylindrical metal boxes containing two pirouettes on brass staples, and one rectangular metal box containing seven spare reeds."
