The banded stripe is worked in complementary warp. The colours were achieved using natural dyes (possibly in combination with chemical ones).  The ends of the warp have been plied forming a knotted fringe. The textile was made as part of a revival of traditional weaving practices at this longhouse, spearheaded by Edric Ong, a local architect. See Edric Ong's book 'Woven Dreams'. The title of the textile is  Akar Laboh Merampo Tebing Ai.  Note that the people in this longhouse converted to Christianity roughly ten years ago so that the designs no longer carry the significance they once had."

Maker's name: Ensunot. Cloth title: Akar Laboh Merampo Tebing Ai.
