            "value": "A euphonium made by the Besson Company in Euston Road in the early 20th century. The euphonium plays an important role in the brass band as it is the primary solo instrument in the lower register. The instrument's wide tubing and large bell (the flared end) give it a warm, vocal sound quality and ensure that it is loud enough to stand out from the band. These attributes developed over the course of the 20th century as euphonium playing became increasingly virtuosic, with soloists and instrument makers gradually refining the instrument's sound. This early model precedes these developments and is slightly smaller than the euphoniums in use today."
