A Zulu beer basket made of coiled palm fibre (Hyphaene Coriacea) and the Euclea root dye. The basket is bulbous and decorated with triangular and diamond patterns.

The basket was purchased as a tourist item by the donor and may never have been used. Traditionally they were used to hold locally brewed, low alcohol beer used for both social and religious purposes.

Collection Information

These objects are only a part of our collections, of which there are more than 350,000 objects. This information comes from our collections database. Some of this is incomplete and there may be errors. This part of the website is also still under construction, so there may be some fields repeated or incorrectly formatted information.
