A turned wooden kokeshi doll, Japan. The doll consists of cylindrical body and spherical head, features and hair on head painted in red and black, quasi calligraphic embellishment on front of body chiefly in red, the surfaces varnished. The inscription on the base possibly reads Tanichi Hiroshi, who may be the maker.
