plate (food service)

London Delftware plate. Commemorative plate with a central portrait of William III and Mary, showing portraits of the crowned King and Queen naively rendered in blue on a white ground. King William is wearing coronation robes and it is almost certain that this piece would have been produced to commemorate the coronation, which took place in 1689. Tin glaze with cobalt underglaze decoration.

Label: old black display label, with handwritten white text: 'PLATE, OF DELFT / "WILLIAM III AND / MARY. / ENGLISH / ABOUT 1690'.
