The slats are fanned out at the front, and threaded onto a length of metal wire. At the back all are held together by a strip of cotton, which has wire looped around it twice. On either side of the tie at the back are 2 points where the slats are held in place by string threaded through each one. The bottom slat is covered in black textile and edged in red. The black ground is decorated by applied rectangles of mother of pearl. The other slats are alternatingly covered with pink, or red textile with cream dots. The top 2 covered in pink are decorated with adhered sequins. The top slat is surmounted with looped wire.",

            "value": "Headdress, hat worn by a \"mafai\" or inspired man in a dance at the termination of his novitiate. After the dance he is enrolled among the \"Meluanas\" or Shamans. Made from seven bands of bamboo bark folded into ovals and bound closely together at one end. This produces a triangular hat. The exterior of each band is covered with red dyed cloth. A little decoration in twisted wire on top. Hat called sin-na."
