            "value": "Sometimes only the image of a blade is sufficient, without any sharp edges present at all. In China, coin swords are a powerful defence against evil spirits in the home, hung on a wall, often over a bed. They are created by attaching coins to iron rods to create the shape of a sword, sometimes as here with attachments. The configuration of the coins is important - coins should be from the same historical period (which is not the case here), in order to have the strongest effect. Coins swords became common under the Qianlong Emperor (1763-1765), but were actually inspired by the 60 year reign of his grandfather the Kangxi Emperor (1662-1723), which was considered an auspicious time for China. The sword and money in combination poses a potent threat to evil spirits, driving them from the home."
