Folded, tie-dyed cloth with the raffia ties removed. The cloth is dyed dark blue. The fabric on display has undergone different stages involved in the production of tie\/dye. The fabric was first folded and tied into the required pattern before being taken through the dyeing process. The dyeing had already been done and the strings used to tie removed with the fabric yet to be unfolded. Tie-dyeing is one way to create an explosion of beautiful colour in fabric decoration. It is a resist technique in which particular sections of plain fabric are folded, tied off or clamped with blocks before dyeing in order to prevent some areas from absorbing the dye. \n\nThe protected tied off sections do not absorb the dye and an undyed pattern against the dyed regions is the result. Tie-dyed fabrics can equally be used to make lamp shades, table covers, window blinds, bed sheets and pillow cases, gift wraps, wall hanging clothing and costumes. Adire apart from serving the primary function of clothing also double as gifts items and sacrificial offering offered to as sacrificial items to Ifa diviners, especially by barren women seeking the fruit of the womb."
