            "value": "FROM A FESTSCHRIFT FOR G.L. DUNMING:Small whistles, usually in the form of birds, are another characteristic French product of the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries. These were made in two main centres, those from Beavais were green glazed with large heads and those from the Saintonge polychrome decorated as the examples illustrated from London. Other types are known elsewhere in north-west Europe, especially in Scandanavia."

            "value": "Zoomorphic whistle, probably a bird call, in the form of a bird.  Earthenware slipware, glazed yellow, brown and green. The base, body and head are all round and positioned vertically. The mouthpiece is angled upwards from the back of the neck. The mouth hole is at its end, and the mouth or window is located on its upper surface. There is a single finger hole on the top of the head."
