In the group consisting of four men with round lanterns and four men with vertical banners behind, all following a figure carrying a yellow orb, the characters on the round lanterns read \u5fb7 \u7167 \u71c8 \u4ead \u2018De Zhao Don Ting\u2019 respectively, and combining them together, they mean \u2018The pavilion of the glittering virtue\u2019, which is the guild\u2019s name. The next four white and orange banners read the same. In a second similar group the four round white lanterns read: \u4e09 \u71df \u64fa \u99ac \u2018san ying bai ma\u2019, which has no meaning but refers to the guild\u2019s name. The two white banners following read: \u4e09\u71df\u64fa\u99ac\u8001\u6703 \u2018san ying bai ma lao hui\u2019. The word \u2018Lao hui\u2019 means the guild. In a group of eight men holding tablets over their shoulders, the first four tablets read: \u8ff4\u907f \u2018hui bi\u2019, meaning \u2018stand aside\u2019; and the next four tablets reads \u8085\u975c \u2018su jing\u2019, which means \u2018be quiet\u2019. These two kinds of tablets were often used in an emperor\u2019s guard. In a later group of eight men, the first four with round lanterns, the next four with banners, following a man with a drum, the first four white lanterns read \u9999 \u6597 \u8001 \u6703  \u2018xiang dou lao hui\u2019, which means \u2018The guild Xiang Dou\u2019. The next two white banners read: \u5929\u6d25\u9999\u6597\u8001\u6703, which refers to \u2018the guild Xiang Dou in Tianjin\u2019.             "value": "This is almost certainly a painting of Mazu (or \u00e2\u20ac\u02dcTian Hou\u00e2\u20ac\u2122, meaning \u00e2\u20ac\u02dcEmpress of Heaven\u00e2\u20ac\u2122) Patrol and Pilgrimage in Tianjin City in the Qing dynasty. According to \u00e5\u00a4\u00a9\u00e6\u00b4\u00a5\u00e7\u0161\u2021\u00e6\u0153\u0192\u00e8\u20ac\u0192 \u00e2\u20ac\u02dcTianjin Huang Hwei Kao\u00e2\u20ac\u2122, a Qing dynasty book that depicts the scenery of the fair called \u00e2\u20ac\u02dcHuang Hwei\u00e2\u20ac\u2122 held by the Tian Hou Temple in Tianjin, the ceremony takes place once a year to celebrate Mazu\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s birthday on 23rd March. They start to prepare the fair from 15th March, and it will last for 7-8 days until Mazu\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s birthday. Each day has different goals: the first few days focuse on the patrol of Mazu, and on the last day (her birthday) the most brilliant performances will be held inside the temple. The believers will be divided into several different groups for the procession, with each group in charge of a certain kind of performance. They often carry their own flag with their group name on it when walking in the procession. Each group will be assigned a position in the procession so that they can line up one after another in order. The book records 25 groups, but also notes that there may be some difference among places. This painting might cover group No. 17 \u00e2\u20ac\u02dcpagoda guild\u00e2\u20ac\u2122. In this guild, people will carry two sedan chairs which is decorated with red lanterns.
