(Tom Crowley, 2017)\n\nRowlett's original object description from a letter to the Horniman: 'Roller shape stone \ncarried against nightmare by an ex policeman named Hitch at Catworth Magna } Hunts where a church Bell Rings on Saturdays (at 12 am) to let the inhabitants know to morrow Sunday it. appears that A ploughman was at plough probably suffering from nightmare got up and went to plough forgetting the Sabbath \nHence a sum of money left to Ring the Bell so as to Toughn[toughen?] mans memory of the Sabbath'\nAdditional comments from Rowlett: 'a common thing was witch charms in Hunts especially among the gipsies so I am told'; 'I have heard Recently of stones to keep the Devil from watch keys in the South Nr winchester'\nRegister: 'Roller shaped perforated stone', L 1\"\nHorniman Register gives no additional data. \nOriginal Label: 'Stone carried against nightmare; also Hung on Bedstead by an ex. Policeman Hitch from Catworth Magna Hunts; 21.'\n'Nightmare' is actually a compound word used initially to describe sleep paralysis: 'mare' refers to supernatural creatures that sit on sleepers' chests, suffocating them and preventing movement.
