His remains were interred in the field adjoining the Friends\u2019 Meeting House, where all the funeral stones are plain and modest. The funeral ritual was equally simple: no service was held at the Meeting House, instead there was a solemn moment of silence at the grave, followed by a member of the community saying a few words, another one reciting a prayer and, lastly, a friend reading aloud the words of a hymn. Some of the mourners did not wear black. Apart from the widow and the two sons, delegates were present from various institutions of which the late John Horniman was a supporter. \nThe text is accompanied by a portrait drawing of John Horniman, made after a photograph belonging to H. Mason, of Croydon. As the article is torn on the right hand side, there is next missing there from every sentence.",
