            "value": "Mr. Punch is thought to be descended from Punchinello, a popular Italian puppet from the sixteenth century. Punch first came to England in the seventeenth century as a string puppet performing for adults, but by 1820 he had become the glove puppet performing for children that we know nowadays. Mr. Punch is wooden, with legs designed to hang over the front of the playboard. His rasping voice is created using a special squeaker known as a swazzle. The other characters traditionally associated with Mr. Punch are Judy, his wife, a policeman, a baby, a crocodile, a clown, the devil and a hangman!"
