            "value": "These masks are made of moulded & painted leather. The leather is soaked in water, stretched and beaten over a mould, and then left to dry out. Eyebrows, moustache & beard are made from goat hair or fur.During Carnival (every year on Shrove Tuesday) the people of Huejotzingo re-enact the defeat of the French troops in the nineteenth century. They wear colourful costumes and leather masks, to represent arrogant French soldiers or the warlike Mexican soldiers. It is a time for fun, when dancers can mock their past oppressors and ridicule landowners and city dwellers."
