            "value": "These masks are made of moulded & painted leather. The leather is soaked in water, stretched and beaten over a mould, and then left to dry out. Eyebrows, moustache & beard are made from goat hair or fur.During Carnival (every year on Shrove Tuesday) the people of Huejotzingo re-enact the defeat of the French troops in the nineteenth century.             "value": "Today's Mexico is a fusion of Aztec and Spanish culture which came about as a result of the Spanish conquest of Mexico by Hernan Cortes in 1521. Mexico became independent from Spain in 1821 but suffered difficult times soon after as there were political takeovers within the country, a war with North America from (1846-1848) and then the Mexican Civil War in1858. Mexico had borrowed money from several countries, including France, which it couldn't repay. So France took the opportunity to invade Mexico and it was at Huejotzingo that the invading troops were first stopped. Eight thousand French were defeated by six thousand Mexicans. Despite the eventual capture of Mexico City by the French the Mexican bravery at Huejotzingo became a symbol of Mexican patriotism and independence.   \n \nThe Cinco de Mayo festival is not strictly speaking a national holiday and is mainly celebrated within the state of Puebla in Mexico. However, it has become an important celebration in many North American cities where there is a significant Mexican population."
