"value": "Male carp usually mature between their second to fourth year of life (this varies depending on the area of the world they are from). Females mature a year later than males. Spawning (mating) occurs when water has reached the correct temperature (18 C) and there is plenty of vegetation. \n\nFish form groups of one female and at least one male. The act of spawning starts with the males who repetitively press the female bodies with their heads. In response, the females lift their tails quickly to propel themselves backwards and forwards. As they do so, the females release eggs little by little in batches as they are spread over the vegetation to which they will attach. At the same time, the males swim alongside the female, fertilising the eggs before they are scattered. \n\nThey hatch after three days and the emerging larvae stay on the grass for the first two to three days. They then begin to get air in their air bladders. The yolk sac almost disappears by the fourth day when they begin to feed on plankton (tiny animals). Once the fish have reached approximately 2cm, they begin to feed on invertebrates from the bottom. The fish develop scales all over their bodies after forty days which make them look like adult fish."

Most Carp are covered with small scales to keep it streamlined and fast moving in order to catch prey. However some carp have very few or no scales.\nCarp tend to be darker in colour along the top of their body and lighter along the belly which makes them more difficult to spot by predators from above and below the water. Carp have good vision, including colour vision and use visual displays. They secrete pheromones for social communication. For example, they have an ability called fright reaction. When threatened by a predator, they may release alarm substances through specialised goblet or club cells in the skin. These secretions cause the other fish nearby to disperse and hide. This helps the rest of the group avoid the predator. Carp also have very good hearing.\nFish bones are structurally similar to those of other vertebrates but are light to aid movement through the water.\nCarp which can tolerate different salinities (salt levels) of water have specialised kidneys to prevent them becoming dehydrated."

"option1": "Due to the carp being a symbol of good fortune and happiness, it has been cultivated in China since approximately 200 B.C., making it quite possibly the first species of fish to be domesticated. Throughout Chinese history, it has been fairly customary for carp to be associated with gifts for weddings. \nSome types of carp are used for the aquarium business. The coloured carp known as the Japanese Koi is one of the world's major widespread decorative fish.\nAs a food source, several kinds of carp are used. Carp can have quite a good taste if they have been from clean water while they can take on quite a mud-like taste if they have been from muddy water. However even when they are not fished for food, carp are still eagerly sought out by those who fish.",
"option2": "Most carp are omnivorous, eating any plant or animal they come across. The common carp eats a diet of water plants, but also insects, crustaceans (including zooplankton), and sometimes dead fish if the opportunity arises.\nCarp have specialized pharyngeal teeth in rows in their throats for grinding prey.\nFemale carp lay fertilised eggs on plants where the hatchlings feed on plankton and then invertebrates until they are fully formed.\nMale carp usually mature between their second to fourth year of life (this varies depending on the area of the world they are from). Females mature a year later than males. Spawning (mating) occurs when water has reached the correct temperature (18 C) and there is plenty of vegetation. Fish form groups of one female and one or two males. The males initiate the spawning act by repeatedly pushing their heads against the body of the females. The female responds by lifting her tail and moving it quickly to propel herself backwards and forwards. As she does do she releases eggs and scatters them over the vegetation. At the same time the male swims alongside the female and fertilises the eggs before they are scattered. The eggs are released gradually in small batches and attach to the vegetation. They hatch after 3 days and the emerging larvae stay on the grass for the first 2\/3 days. They then begin to get air in their air bladders. By the 4th day the yolk sac has nearly gone and they begin to feed on plankton (tiny animals). Once the fish have reached approximately 2 cm they begin to feed on invertebrates from the bottom. Forty days later the fish have developed scales all over their body and they look like adult fish.",
