Usually the headdress depended on the women's age,  social position and their place in the family. Young girls wear only their own braids for a modest covering or a white kerchief and grown up girls or ladies wear caps and turbans. There are many practical purposes of head coverings. One of the reasons is to protect the wearer from spells, witches and demons.\n\nThis headdress has a ring to help support a container on the head whilst walking.  The flap covers the back of the neck and is likely to protect the neck from the sun."
