These puppets are made by the Bhat community, who are the only community to make these Kathputli Puppets. Men create the heads out of old wood, which are then painted by the women. Women create the rest of the puppets by first making the hands with a square bit of fabric. The fabric used is an old pieces of sari. Local raw cotton is stuffed inside and stitched into arms. Arms are then decorated with colourful ribbon. Arms are attached by hammering a fine sharp nail with no grooves into a wooden base. No glue is used in making the puppets. Trousers are created using old pieces of fabric and attached to the puppets. Legs are made by stitching a tube of raw cotton into a foot shape and covering with fabric. Fabric is attached to the head via nail and hammer. The puppets clothes replicate the clothes that the maker\u2019s community wears."
