            "value": "The launeddas is a traditional instrument of the Italian island of Sardegna (Sardinia). Like the zampogna, the bagpipe from southern Italy, the launnedas has two melody pipes with fingerholes. The smallest pipe mancosedda sounds the melody. The longest pipe tumbu is without fingerholes, and plays a bass drone.  The perpetual motion of the accompaniment played on the middle pipe, and the continuous drone, are made possible by circular breathing."

            "value": "The launeddas is a traditional instrument of the Italian island of Sardinia. Like the zampogna, the bagpipe from southern Italy, the launnedas has two melody pipes with finger holes and one bass pipe without. The smallest pipe (known as the mankossedda) plays the melody, the middle pipe (the mankosa) an accompaniment and the bass pipe (the tumbu) a continuous drone note. Circular breathing enables the player sustain the notes without having to stop for breath. Curt Sachs writes in 'The History of Musical Instruments' (New York 1940 p.91) 'Players of the\u2026launedda train their pupils in this difficult technique by means of a straw and a vessel filled with water; dipping the straw and blowing, the boy has to keep blowing while he is breathing in and out; if the water stops gurgling, the teacher gives him a box on the ear.'"

Three bamboo pipes of graduated length,  with the shortest to the player\u2019s right, are tied together with narrow cords so that that the upper rims are adjacent and the pipes fan out towards the bottom. A heterozeug mouthpiece, in the form of a narrower reed pipe, is inserted into the proximal end of each pipe and secured with black wax. Each mouthpiece is closed at the top by a node and has an upcut idioglotal reed positioned on the top surface. Each reed has a piece of black wax at its tip to tune it. Each of the shorter pipes has five rectangular fingerholes. The bottom finger hole of each pipe is elongated to approximately twice the length of the others. The longest pipe is a drone. It is made in two joints, with a tenon at the bottom of the upper part connecting with a socket in the lower pipe."
