            "value": "The bodhr\u00e1n is a frame drum associated with the traditional music of Ireland. Its earliest use in Irish culture was in festival processions and it was particularly associated with the celebrations of St. Stephen's Day. The use of the bodhr\u00e1n in folk groups is quite recent, dating from the revival of Irish folk music traditons in the 1950s. The decoration on the head of this example was inspired by the Book of Kells."

            "value": "The bodhr\u00e1n  a frame drum A traditional instrument of Ireland,  the bodhr\u00e1n has long been associated with folk festivals, such as the one held on St. Stephen\u2019s Day.  The drum was incorporated in concert bands and folk groups during the second half of the 20th century.  The bodhr\u00e1n by Paul Doyle has a frame of Irish elm with a traditional cross-piece handle at the back. It has a double-headed tipper or beater.  The decoration on the drumhead was inspired by the Book of Kells."

            "value": "Bodhr\u00e1n, a single membrane frame drum. The frame is made from a single strip of Irish elm (Ulmus glabra). A cross-piece handle is attached across the inside of the frame. The membrane of goatskin imported from Pakistan is secured by a hoop of light coloured wood. This is pinned to the frame with dome-headed tacks. The membrane is decorated with a celtic strapwork design in red, green and black felt tip pen, inspired by the Book of Kells. The stick, or tipper, is a single lathed piece of Irish elm. The central section is cylindrical and the heads at each end are bulbous and elongated."

            "value": "The bodhr\u00e1n, as beaten with a stick or tipper, became popular in Irish folk music after the 1950s. It is now a rhythm instrument of ceilidh bands worldwide. The drum was originally hand beaten, and there is evidence to suggest that it may have evolved from a tray with a skin base, a household and agricultural utensil also used to accompany dancing. One of its oldest associations is with the musical ensemble heralding the return of wren hunters on St Stephen's day (26 December)."
