Uncharacteristically, the label inside the instrument with the maker's name has not been mentioned in Bull's catalogue, nor has the point d'aiguille decoration. The instrument has ordinary viola da gamba type C-holes, not fishtail shaped (although at a stretch, C-holes could be seen as some kind of fishtail) and the scroll is a scroll in the ordinary violin-family shape, not lion-head.
