'Lutes. There are several varieties of lute in Nigeria, although the molo (fig. 5.X.X2) is perhaps the best known. This is a Hausa instrument but the Yoruba also use it for their sakara music. The wooden head' (?check source) 'is hollowed out of a solid piece into a trough-like shape. Leather is stretched over the top, bound on with interwoven leather thongs. From the edge of the hole cut at the bottom end of this resonator run the three strings. Two are attached by leather thongs to the top of the stem, and the short low string about halfway down. The strings are tuned by pulling them up on the stem. These lutes are often hung with shells, seeds or other percussion devices, and the player can also tap the resonator while playing with a metal-capped finger. Thus a kind of one-man orchestra can be achieved.'"
