            "value": "Dulcimer of trapezoid shape, inscribed \"BEST LONDON MAKE\". The sides have bands of herringbone inlay in different coloured woods. Tuning pegs for 23 quadruple courses of wire strings, and originally 23 chessmen bridges. Now the dulcimer has 22 courses of strings and 22 bridges. Courses 1 and 21 with only 2 strings, all strings missing from course 19. Width overall: 888mm. Length overall: 418mm. Object numbers M19a and b are two dulcimer beaters of P-shaped profile, of cane with leather covered heads. Their length overall is a: 236mm, b: 187mm. M19c is a trapezoid-shaped wooden case for  dulcimer with brass carrying handle. The width overall is: 935mm, length overall: 451mm. Object number M19d is a dulcimer tuning key, and M19e is a key for carrying case. The donor informed the museum that this dulcimer was owned by her Grandfather, Mr Arthur Port, who worked on the Medway barges. He was born c. 1880 and died c. 1910 by drowning. After his death his son (the donor's father) preserved the instrument by not letting anybody play it."
