The plastic recorder was therefore marketed towards teaching children in groups, as this 1971 advertisement clearly demonstrates. This recorder was donated by Dr Dolmetsch on the occasion of a concert given by the Dolmetsch family at the Horniman Museum in 1987."

            "value": "Descant recorder (in C).  \nArnold Dolmetsch Ltd., Haslemere, made at the end of 1946.\nGiven by Dr Carl Dolmetsch on the occasion of the concert by the Dolmetsch family at the Horniman Museum on 13th November 1987.\nStamped: 'MADE IN ENGLAND\/PAT. NO. 665757 BS.3499\/DOLMETSCH\/DOLONITE\/DESCANT RECORDER\/FINISHED & TESTED IN HASLEMERE' with the British Standards symbol.  Made of 'dolonite' plastic in three joints.  The fingerholes for the fourth and fifth fingers of the right hand are double-holed.  Over all length 311mm., lowest note c2.  This instrument is the first plastic descant recorder to have been made by Arnold Dolmetsch Ltd.  With tutor, and box. \nNotes on a conversation with Dr Carl Dolmetsch CBE on 13th November 1987, on the occasion of his presenting the recorder to the museum: the instrument was designed by Dolmetsch in 1946.  The firm of Insulators Ltd. of Edmonton made the tools to produce it and moulded it.  'Dolonoite', a special type of bakelite, was recommended as being a suitable material for the instrument by Mr Brierley of I.C.I.. Around 1970 the firm ceased using dolonite for these instruments and changed to ABS material.  Boosey & Hawkes were the distributors for the instruments for many years."
