            "value": "Shahnai or sahnai, oboe. Wooden body, conical both inside and out. Seven finger holes and no thumbholes. Holes are large and are blackened around the insides, suggesting they have been burned out. The holes form a roughly straight line, but this is not parallel with the plane of the body and veers to the players left at the distal end. The top end of the body is covered with a conical metal ferrule 20 mm long. The staple is wound with a substantial amount of blue and white thread. The white thread has a wooden needle 71 mm long tied to the end. The reed is wide and oval shaped, approx 15 mm wide, although one side has broken and is very loose. The reed is quadruple, in that both sides are made from two pieces. The bell is of a yellow metal coated with a silver metal. It is shaped into bands at the bottom of the body befor flaring widely. The flare shows lathing marks on the outside. Diameter of bell: 71 mm.",

Purulia Chhau dance ensemble consists of Shehnai, one dholak (barrel drum) M34-1985, and one dhumsa (large kettledrum) M35-1985. The dancers wear jingling pellet bells on their ankles."
