            "value": "Duct flute. Pendu. Karo Batak, Sumatra. Bought by Mrs Jenkins in 1972 for \u00a31.50. Made from a length of bamboo. A plug is inserted into the proximal end to form a block, and a small window is cut out of the wall of the pipe. Below the 'head', the outer skin is peeled away leaving a rougher contrasting body. 6 finger holes arranged small, small, large, small, small, large. At the distal end the bore is partially closed by the wall of the node, into which a small aperture is cut. Undecorated."

            "value": "Penudu, duct flute. A pipe of bamboo, tapering slightly inwards towards the distal end, where a node constricts the bore but has been partially opened with small central hole. A block has been inserted into the proximal end and is positioned some way into the tube. Below this, a mouth has been cut into the front face. Its upper edge is perpendicular to the body and its lower edge angles downwards. The outer layer of the bamboo has been removed from the lower section of the pipe (about two thirds of its length). This gives it a slighter darker brown colouration and a narrower outer diameter. Six round finger holes are positioned along the front of this section. Four are small, but the third and sixth are considerably larger."
