Arnold Dolmetsch's restoration and\/or previous restorations have made the following modifications:  lead weights under front half of keylevers, weights inserted in sides of keylevers in back half (these may be original), balance pins changed and bushed, felt washers (common to modern pianos) around balance pins, listing board with felt glued to bottom side screwed onto instrument, thick felt damping cloth.' The significance of the label appears not to have been noticed before MW's examination in Feb.2013. Herbert Heyde (May, 2103) pointed out to MW that the label does not mean the instrument was necessarily made by Leo, although perhaps it was."

            "value": "II:4 [B]\nMiniature clavichord\nGerman 18th century\nSmall clavichord playing at 4' pitch.\nCompass C-c4 with short octave. The case of the instrument proper is of ebonised wood, the naturals are faced with ivory, the accidentals with ebony. The fronts of the keys are decorated with embossed paper. The letters MW are scratched on the soundboard.. The top two octaves are fretted, each string is used to produce more than one note. The instrument is enclosed within an outer case with a lid and a flap at one side. On the outer case are pasted a Royal Society of Musicians label and a bookplate with the initials WLHC. A search of the Royal Society of Musicians list of members, accessed on their website, produced a list of about two dozen names with at least two of these initials in the correct order. Of these, three names had three initials in common in the correct order and two of these were keyboard players (organ and\/or piano). These two are William Hutchins Callcott (admitted 1830, organ & piano) and William Hayman Cummings (admitted 1864, organ). There were no entries with the four initials in their correct order."
